Interactive Tools for Learning and Teaching
We want students to understand statistics. JMP® interactive Concept Discovery Modules make it happen.
Ten modules that illustrate some of the most challenging and fundamental concepts covered in introductory statistics courses, including the new beta version of Demonstrate ANOVA.
The modules are fun, easy to use and available to professors, students and any interested learner as a free download from the JMP web site. By changing and controlling values, selecting radio buttons and otherwise interacting with the module screen, users can see the concept in action immediately.
Try out all ten to learn or teach fundamental concepts.
Note: These learning tools are part of the JMP File Exchange. Downloading of files from the File Exchange requires creation of a sas.com profile.

Distribution Generator. Provides students with a more visual understanding of the underpinnings of distributions and variability. |
![]() |
Sampling Distribution of Sample Means. Illustrates the distribution of sample means and the connection to the distribution of sample data. Includes controls for population shape, mean, and standard deviation, sample size and number of samples. |
![]() |
Sampling Distribution of Sample Proportions. Illustrates the distribution of sample proportions and the connection to the distribution of sample data. Includes controls for population proportion, sample size and number of samples. |
![]() |
Confidence Interval for the Population Mean. Illustrates the variability and capture rate of the confidence interval for the population mean. Includes controls for population shape, mean, and standard deviation, sample size, confidence level and number of samples.
Students change and control values and select onscreen options to interactively learn fundamental statistical concepts, such as confidence intervals. |
![]() |
Confidence Interval for the Population Proportion. Illustrates the variability and capture rate of the confidence interval for the population proportion. Includes controls for population proportion, sample size, confidence level and number of samples. |
![]() |
Hypothesis Testing for the Population Mean. Illustrates the variability of the test statistic and the connection to Type I error rates for different null and alternative hypotheses. Includes controls for population shape, mean, and standard deviation, sample size, alpha level and number of samples. |
![]() |
Hypothesis Testing for the Population Proportion. Illustrates the variability of the test statistic and the connection to Type I error rates for different null and alternative hypotheses. Includes controls for the population proportion, sample size, alpha level and number of samples. |
![]() |
Distribution and Probablity Calculator. Calculates and visually depicts probabilities and percentiles for the normal, t, Chi-square, and F distributions. Includes controls for the appropriate parameters for the given distribution. |
![]() |
Demonstrate Regression. Explore regression concepts, including: intercept, slope, correlation, least squares and sum of squares, residuals, R Square, parameter estimates, test statistics and p-values. Manipulate population characteristics, sample size and plotted data to explore the influence on the regression equation and results. |
![]() |
Demonstrate ANOVA (Beta Version). Demonstrate within, between and total variability for samples from two or three populations. Includes controls for population means, the population standard deviation, sample sizes, the number of samples, and the alpha level. Explore ANOVA concepts, such as F Ratios, P-values, the F Distribution, power, residuals, test statistics, false positive rates and more. |
About the Modules
Developed by Amy Froelich of Iowa State University and Bill Duckworth of Creighton University, and programmed by Wayne Levin and Brian McFarlane of Predictum Inc and Mark Bailey and Brady Brady of JMP.
